: an infectious often epidemic disease that is caused by adenoviruses (genus Mastadenovirus and especially serotypes of M. dominans) and is marked by pain, by redness and swelling of the conjunctiva, by edema of the tissues around the eye, and by tenderness of the adjacent lymph nodes
